Digital scrapbooking is a great way to preserve memories in layouts and designs that tell the story behind the picture. The story is as important as the picture - recording the story is called Journaling and it can range from simple details like the date or location and extend to paragraphs of details to revive emotions and feelings sourrounding the event.

Designs can be simple arrangements of images or can be elaborate layouts with all kinds of elements, graphics, and text layered to make a creative expression of the memory.

Layout elements can come from the Image Gallery in the Online Design Tool, can be designed using your own photo editing software, or can come from one of many online sites that sell or give away design elements. Most of the online sites provide layout files in PNG format with transparent areas where your photos will go. These files can be directly uploaded to your PhotoAlbum account and you can easily layer your photos in place.

Working with Photos

If you are working with physical photos such as family ancestor photographs then the first step is to get these photos scanned. We have found a nice service at ScanMyPhotos.com they have a fixed price option where you can ship them a box full of photographs and they will scan them and return them to you with the scans on CD regardless of the number of images.

Once you have your images in digital form then the next suggestion is to review them to make sure they are nice and bright and sharp. Often images are taken in bad lighting or are fuzzy. To improve the quality of these images you can either use your photo editing software or we have found another free service that can fix your images right in your browser at fotoflexer. You can fix things like levels, red eye, sharpening and more.

Working with Graphics

We offer a broad range of graphic elements in the image gallery. We also support the uploading of all major types of graphics - including vector formats like EPS and PDF. There are many clip art site where you can find all kinds of graphics to use in your designs. One cool site with vector graphics is Vecteezy these graphics will print very sharp edges and crisp lines when used in your layouts.

Working with Text

Our font capabilities are very extensive. Select the text tool from the Page Objects tab and press the Font button at the top to open the font dialog and then use the popup at the top to select the various types of fonts. In addition to our font tool, it is also possible to create your own text using your fonts and styles and then save this out of your editing program as a PDF file and upload.

If you are stuck trying to figure out what to write then Quoteland or QuoteGarden might help!
